Man Begins Stabbing at Birthday Party
On July 1, a man began stabbing children while they were celebrating a birthday in Los Angeles. Six children were injured during the attack, and a three-year-old girl later died from her injuries. The suspect, Timmy Kinner, used to be a resident at the apartment complex and is believed to have been seeking revenge for being kicked out. The attack is still under investigation. (CNN)

Seattle Bans Plastic Utensils and Straws
On July 2, Seattle became the latest city to ban plastic utensils and straws in an attempt to be more environmentally friendly. Violators will be expected to pay a $250 fine. (CNN)

Woman Climbs Statue of Liberty
Woman Climbs Statue of Liberty
On July 4, a woman climbed the base of the Statue of Liberty to protest the separation of migrant families. She was up there for three hours before rescuers were able to get her down. Originally, the protester claimed she would not come down until all children were released from detainment centers. (CNN)

President Trump Nominates Brett Kavanaugh
On July 10, it was announced that President Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh for the empty Supreme Court seat. Kavanaugh is a former adviser to ex-President George W. Bush and a District of Columbia appeals court judge. (BBC)

Jaguar Escapes Enclosure
On July 14, a New Orleans zoo closed for the day after a jaguar escaped its habitat. The jaguar killed six other animals before being returned safely to its habitat. (CNN)

Florida Beach Reopens
On July 15, the town of Fernandina Beach reopened its beaches after two shark attacks occurred the day before. Ocean Rescue is on high alert. (CNN)

Trump-Putin Summit
On July 16, the summit between President Trump and Vladimir Putin came to an end. President Trump is currently under fire for defending Russia against election meddling charges. (BBC)

Two Shark Attacks in New York
On July 18, two children swimming at a New York beach are suspected to have suffered from apparent shark attacks. Both children had punctures on their legs, and investigators are currently testing to see if they’re shark bites. (Reuters)

Explosion at Pennsylvania Army Depot
On July 19, a small explosion occurred at Letterkenny Army Depot, injuring four people who were immediately taken to the hospital. The incident is still under investigation. (CNN)
Duck Boat Sinks
Duck Boat Sinks
On July 19, a duck boat in Missouri sank, killing 17 passengers, 9 of whom were from one family. Investigators reported that the boat changed its normal route after storms began to brew. They have yet to speak with the captain about the incident. (CNN)

Trader Joe’s Standoff
On July 21, a man barricaded himself in a Los Angeles Trader Joe’s. The suspect killed one woman, and injured six before being shot in the arm by police. The suspect shot his grandmother and another female earlier that day before taking people hostage in Trader Joe’s. (CNN)

Shooting at Nevada Church
On July 22, a gunman opened fired on a church congregation in Nevada. The suspect, John K. O’Connor, killed one man and injured another before he walked home. O’Connor later surrendered to police. (CNN)
Building Collapses on Miami Beach
Building Collapses on Miami Beach
On July 23, a building in Miami Beach collapsed, injuring one person. The building had a permit for demolition. No other victims have been reported thus far. (CNN)
Bailout for Trade Wars
Bailout for Trade Wars
On July 24, the Trump Administration revealed a $12 billion bailout for farmers. The aid is meant to protect products raise taxes in response to President Trump’s tariffs. (BBC)

Shooting at Texas Nursing Home
On July 27, a gunman entered a nursing home in Texas, killing five people. Police said the suspect was a male and it was a murder-suicide, but no other details have been released. (Reuters)
Shark Kidnapped from Texas Aquarium
Shark Kidnapped from Texas Aquarium
On July 28, thieves disguised a shark as a baby before placing it in a stroller and abducting it from a Texas aquarium. The suspects have since been found, and the shark, Miss Helen, is safely home at the aquarium. (BBC)
Case of Food Poisoning at Chipotle
Case of Food Poisoning at Chipotle
On July 31, an Ohio Chipotle location closed down after more than 100 people reported food poisoning after eating there. Chipotle shares fell 9% after the claims. (Reuters)

10 Year Old Beats Phelps’ Record
On July 31, Clark Kent Apuada, a ten year old boy who’s only been swimming competitively for four years, beat Michael Phelps’ record for the 100-meter butterfly. Apuada clocked in at 1:09:38. (CNN)
