The most aggressively promoted series of the season, Ed was doomed to be a disappointment. While the show is better than most of the season’s new offerings, it fails to distinguish itself from other formulaic romantic comedies. New York attorney Ed Stevens (Tom Cavanagh) returns home from work early after being fired to find his wife in bed with the mailman. He abruptly returns to his suburban hometown, Stuckeyville, where he pursues the woman (Julie Bowen) he never had the guts to approach as a high school student. He also impulsively buys the town’s bowling alley, which doubles as his law office.
