Wallace Benton (Oliver Platt), a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist at a New York Post–style newspaper, likes to drink as much as he enjoys solving crimes. For him, the two often go hand-in-hand. His colleagues include his former wife (Hope Davis), the paper’s hard-nosed editor (Bebe Neuwirth), and the paper’s owner (Tom Conti), who’s driven by catchy headlines, and, of course, the bottom line. Despite its star-studded cast, Deadline never found an audience and was canceled by NBC less than a month into the season.
