She wrote this essay about time travel. It was a night like any other. I was reading about the Declaration of Independence for an assignment for school. I was in the living room sitting on the lumpy couch with a white blanket with flowers on it covering me. As I was reading I noticed that only men signed the declaration, and that John Hancock’s signature was GINORMOUS! When I finished my assignment, I got ready for bed. I opened the bathroom door to brush my teeth, but to my surprise it was not the bathroom! It was the signing of the Declaration of Independence! John Hancock, Ben Franklin, Samuel Adams, Robert Treat Paine, and Elbridge Gerry were there! It looked like thousands of men were there! Then John Hancock saw me and asked, “Young girl where did you come from? Did you come to sign the Declaration of Independence? I said, “yes” in a meek little voice. “Okay,” he said in his booming voice. “Come right this way young woman.” I followed him into a huge group of men who were signing. One of them said, “What is this young woman doing here?” “She is here on my command. She is going to sign the Declaration of Independence!” Hancock bellowed angrily. “Okay, okay!” You don’t have to bite my head off!” said the man. “Sobut I” began the man. “She will sign!” shouted Hancock. “Okay!” Hancock gave me a feather pen and a bottle of ink and told me, “sign right here, erMissum” “Miss Mountain,” I said. “Right, Miss Mountain, sign here. Your first and last name, please.” “Okay,” I felt really proud to sign my name. Right after I signed, the Lobster backs burst right through the door! “Help!” I cried, “help us all good lord!” After I yelled, a red coat grabbed me and put me in irons and pushed me onto their boat. “Help me!” I cried one last time before they put a cloth over my mouth to keep me quiet. It felt like 1,000,000 pieces of cloth covering my mouth. They put me in a room and told me to wait there. Then the boat started moving. “Help!” I tried to cry again. “I guess I’m stuck in this century and I won’t be home in time for school.” More from Writing Skills
