On August 4, the protests in Hong Kong continued, stalling traffic and creating dangerous situations in popular shopping districts. Authorities worry the situation will become more dangerous. (CNN)

Dengue Epidemic in Philippines

Dengue Epidemic in Philippines

On August 7, the Philippines declared a national dengue epidemic after 622 people died between January and July. There were 146,000 cases reported between that time, as well. (CNN)

Taliban Bombs Kabul

Taliban Bombs Kabul

On August 7, despite peace talks between the Taliban and the US, a bomb went off near a police station in Kabul, killing 14 people. The Taliban has officially claimed responsibility for the attack. Both sides had previously stated there was progress during the peace talks, but this could be a setback. (BBC)

Mosque Shooting in Norway

On August 10, there was a shooting at a Norweigan mosque, injuring at least one person. A suspect has been taken into custody, and multiple weapons have been found throughout the mosque. (CNN)

Fuel Tanker Explodes in Tanzania

On August 11, a fuel tanker exploded in Tanzania, killing 60 people and injuring another 70. A witness said that the truck swerved after trying to avoid a motorcyclist, causing him to lose control and turn over. (CNN)

Protests Turn Violent in Zimbabwe

On August 16, the planned opposition protest in Zimbabwe became violent after police clashed with opposition party members. Many protesters were beaten and then taken to jail. (CNN)

Wedding Massacre in Kabul

Wedding Massacre in Kabul

On August 18, a suicide bomber entered a wedding in Kabul and blew himself up during the festivities. So far, the death toll is at 63. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack. (CNN)

Human Chain in Hong Kong

Human Chain in Hong Kong

On August 23, protesters in Hong Kong formed a human chain to show solidarity among the citizens. The chain reached around the city, and fell on the anniversary of the Baltic Way. Hong Kong HIgh Court has taken action to end these protests, but protesters show no signs of stopping as the months continue. The calm of the protests was broken on August 24, as police dispersed tear gas into the crowd. (CNN)

Arson Attack on Bar in Mexico

On August 28, twenty-three people died and thirteen were injured in a bar after an arsonist set the place ablaze. No arrests have been made, and police have very little information thus far. (CNN)
